For the Generations: Stories of Asian Americans in Richmond

Exhibition identity at The Valentine, I designed a wordmark where each letter is set in a different typeface and filled with distinct patterns drawn from across Asian cultures. No two letters are alike — each carries its own visual language, texture, and heritage. Yet together, they resolve into a single, legible word. This tension between individuality and cohesion is intentional: it mirrors the story the exhibition tells, of people who arrived from vastly different corners of Asia, for vastly different reasons, and built lives, communities, and identities in Richmond — distinct, yet woven into a shared history.
